EP Putties and Adhesives
Epoxy putty and epoxy adhesive for installing surface packers, patching cracks and concrete protection
WEBAC EP resin putties are based on filled epoxy resin systems. Epoxy resin systems are used as adhesives for mineral materials and for sealing pipe connections in pipe construction, canal and sewer repair. In crack repair, WEBAC epoxy putty is used for installing surface packers and for patching cracks. In concrete protection, epoxy putty is suitable as repair putty and concrete filler in accordance with the CE declaration of performance. WEBAC epoxy putties and adhesives are compatible with concrete, steel, masonry mortars, foil and sheathing materials for cables. EP resin systems are also especially resistant to lyes, salts and acids detrimental to the building structure.
Preparatory work
Structural analysis:
- Inspection of the substrate
- Moisture condition (dry, damp or wet)
- Surface strength (> 1.5 N/mm²)
- Condition of the surface (soiled, oily)
This provides information on:
- Feasibility of measures
- Selection of suitable putty/adhesive
Ensure that the temperature limit is complied with before starting work. All dirt, loose and separative substances must be removed from the surfaces to be patched or bonded. It is recommended to roughen the surfaces before applying EP resin systems to tiles, ceramics or stoneware. This increases the adhesive power. The elastic sealing of pipe joints and patching of pipe connections requires cleaning of joint edges and surfaces before applying epoxy resin systems. All damp substrates and substrates contaminated with oil or grease should be primed with WEBAC® 4270/WEBAC® 4270T prior to use to improve adhesion. Depending on the application method it must also be decided if backfilling with a suitable backfilling material is necessary to avoid adhesion to three flanks.
Application of WEBAC Epoxy Resin Putty
Patching
Apply the epoxy putty/epoxy adhesive with a flat trowel. For the patching, apply a layer approx. 10 cm wide and at least 3 mm thick to the entire crack area (material consumption: approx. 500 g/rm). Also treat subsidiary cracks. Depending on the crack course, leave approx. 3–5 cm long sections at the highest points of the crack unpatched to allow the air in the crack to escape (air vent).
Bonding
Apply the epoxy putty/epoxy adhesive at the required layer thickness with a flat trowel.
Installation of sealing tape
Apply the adhesive at a layer thickness of 2–3 mm to the pretreated substrate with a flat trowel or a serrated trowel. Then embed WEBAC® Sealing Tape TPE into the fresh adhesive layer and rework the embedded sealing tape with a second layer of adhesive in the treated area. For instructions for use of WEBAC® Sealing Tape TPE, please see the respective technical data sheet. Please note: The quantity of material applied and its inherent temperature influence the workable life. Higher temperatures will accelerate, lower temperatures will slow down the reaction. The curing time is influenced by the layer thickness and the temperature of the building or structure; higher layer thicknesses promote the curing process. WEBAC epoxy putty may only be applied in pure form without any residues from cleaning agents or other foreign matter.
Epoxy resin putty: final work
- The patching can be removed mechanically as soon as the injection process is completed and the filling material has cured
